Tori's Story...

Being shy makes the unknown and unexpected that much harder to endure. Tori found herself in the county shelter amongst a lot of other cats in the cat area and barking dogs housed nearby. The environment frightened her and she kept to the back corner of her small cage. She peered out from behind the bars to watch the activity of county volunteers and workers, and hid her face when strangers walked through the room. Surely if they didn’t see her she would remain safe, she thought. One day the volunteer she knew best gently removed her from her cage and took her to a larger room to meet new people and other cats. Tori felt the calmness and stability offered from a fellow cat, Danny. She carefully made her way across the room and curled up beside him. He assured her that she would be ok. Tori then allowed the intake team of Our Pal’s Place to approach her and rub her head. She actually enjoyed the interaction. After some time, she was placed in a cat carrier and relocated to the Cat Room of Our Pal’s Place Pet Adoption Facility. The cat carrier door opened, but Tori refused to come out. “Where am I now?” she anxiously wondered. Then she saw her confidant, Danny, come out of his carrier. She breathed a sigh of relief, but was not sure she wanted to come out yet. Over the days, Tori would venture out of her carrier for food and a bathroom break while humans were not in the room. Eventually, Tori trusted that she was safe and would venture out of her carrier for longer periods of time. Now weeks later, Tori enjoys the company of her new human friends and is playing with the other cats. The transition has been stressful on her, but she has come out of her “tortoise” shell. Tori needs a home that is stable and calm, and a person who will help her continue to build self-confidence.
