Lexie's Story...

My favorite saying is “when life brings you a storm, play in the puddles”! What else can you do in bad situations?! I got lost from my home and ended up in the county shelter. My people never bothered to find me. That’s ok. I made friends with the county volunteers and workers and became a favorite! Because I was heartworm positive, the public kept passing me by … most people don’t want the burden of high vet bills. That’s ok. I still had my friends who did stop by to visit with me and take me outside. I had overheard one of my friends say that Our Pal’s Place was wanting to rescue me. But, then the county shelter was shut down because of a potential infection. The good news is it was caught in time and all of us responded well to the antibiotics with few casualties. On Our Pal’s Place next visit, they put me at the top of their Christmas rescue list. I was so excited to get out! I had been there since July 11 and was rescued on December 22 … over 5 months! That’s ok. I’ve kept a great attitude and am now extremely thankful to be at O.P.P.! On Christmas Day, I enjoyed a big helping of chicken and broth along with my fellow O.P.P. residents. It was so yummy!! And, I just found out that O.P.P. has a Save-A-Heart Fund which will pay for my heartworm treatment! All I have to do is find a family who will give me a home. I know 2020 will be a great year and look forward to meeting my new family!
